Unmasking Meetdraw

By

One of the things which really helps us Meetdraw butchers improve our events is feedback, which we regularly seek and get plenty of! (please do keep it coming to [email protected])

We listen and respond with changes when it is practically possible, and we are not afraid to try new venues, themes and ideas. For example, we regularly change venues to complement a theme and to experience new less-familiar places (we were the first evening networking event in Bournemouth’s Hilton Hotel, and one of the first events when Canvas opened in 2015). Other recent examples have included when the background noise is obstructive to networking, we bring it down. We try to help you meet new people in lighthearted and creative ways, and want you to leave with a smile on your face having had a good time!

We try to keep events free, and to do that we rely on the support of carefully chosen sponsors, who we are happy to recommend and introduce to you and without whom we wouldn’t be able to put the events on and provide all manner of entertainment and promotions. We also hope to introduce you to some new sponsors soon – but there may be opportunities there if you know or work with anyone who might like to support our events.

For the upcoming Meetdraw, our 32nd event, we have decided to try something new in coming away from a 3 course sit down meal which we have hosted for the last few years in December. We still want the occasion to be a treat; a night to dress up, feel festive, catch-up with friends and meet new peers! We’ll be rolling out the Meetdraw red carpet, and putting on some amazing entertainment, promotional drinks, a pop-up casino and some other surprises on the night!

However, at a time of year that can be expensive for many, and with our ticket price rising in recent years, our largest expenditure for recent December events has been food; accounting for over half the event budget, and by removing the meal, we are able to remove the ticket cost and welcome more of our audience, and hopefully not alienate others! Being inclusive and accessible is important to us which is why we’ve also gone for a bigger venue this year. Previous Christmas events have had restricted numbers and, since Meetdraw has grown in the past few years, we don’t feel it’s right that people who want to come can’t get a ticket.

We’ve also brought the date forward in the month to ensure it remains accessible to our student attendees, and at the time of writing, we already have almost 600 people signed up to join us in the O2 Academy, Bournemouth. We are hoping to fill the place with another massive FREE Meetdraw, and start the December party season in style!

We are confident this format will be a hit, but we will still be seeking your feedback in the New Year! We look forward to seeing you on 1st December!
